Public Outreach

Public ministry, including street preaching, sign-holding, and gospel tract distribution, has become an important ministry of Bear Trail Baptist Church. Multiple times each week, our congregation meets to publicly declare the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the world.

Although this practice may seem outlandish to some, the public declaration of the gospel is a biblical commandment and something that has been done throughout history by the church, the apostles, and Jesus Christ himself.

Consider some of these Bible truths concerning public ministry.

Jesus preached publicly

John 12:44 (KJV) Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

John 7:28 (KJV) Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

Matthew 5:1-2 (KJV) And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

The first believers preached publicly

Acts 2:14 (KJV) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

Acts 4:19-20 (KJV) But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

Acts 18:28 (KJV) For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

Acts 20:20 (KJV) And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,

We are commanded to preach the gospel

Mark 16:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
